Microcanonical D-branes and Back Reaction

چکیده

We compare the emission rates from excited D-branes in the microcanonical ensemble with back reaction corrected emission rates from black holes in field theory. In both cases, the rates in the high energy tail of the spectrum differ markedly from what a canonical ensemble or free field theory approach would yield. Instead of being proportional to a Bose-Einstein distribution function, the rates in the high energy tail are proportional to eBH , where ∆SBH is the difference in black hole entropies before and after emission. After including the new effects, we find agreement, at leading order, between the D-brane and field theory rates over the entire range of the spectrum. 1 Work supported in part by a DOE grant DE-FG03-92-ER40701. 2 Work supported in part by a DOE grant DE-FG03-92-ER40701 and by a DuBridge Fellowship.

On non-uniform smeared black branes

We investigate charged dilatonic black p-branes smeared on a transverse circle. The system can be reduced to neutral vacuum black branes, and we perform static perturbations for the reduced system to construct non-uniform solutions. At each order a single master equation is derived, and the Gregory-Laflamme critical wavelength is determined. Based on the non-uniform solutions, we discuss thermo...

Microcanonical treatment of black hole decay at the Large Hadron Collider

This study of corrections to the canonical picture of black hole decay in large extra dimensions examines the effects of back-reaction corrected and microcanonical emission at the LHC. Provided new heavy particles of mass near the fundamental Planck scale are not discovered, differences between these corrections and thermal decay will be insignificant at the LHC

Localization instability in the rotating D-branes

In the microcanonical ensemble for string theory on AdSm × Sn, there is a phase transition between a black hole solution extended over the Sn and a solution localized on the Sn if the AdSm has the topology R 2 × Sm−2. The phase transition will not appear if the AdSm has the topology R 2 × Tm−2, that is, when the AdSm × Sn geometry is regarded as arising from the nearhorizon limit of a black m −...

Microcanonical Simulation of Complex Actions: The Wess Zumino Witten Case

We present the main results of our microcanonical simulation of the Wess Zumino Witten action functional. This action, being highly nontrivial and capable of exhibiting many different phase transitions, is chosen to be representative of general complex actions. We verify the applicability of microcanonical simulation by successfully obtaining two of the many critical points of the Wess ZuminoWi...
